In a significant pre-election move, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's cabinet has made a noteworthy decision to grant 35% reservation for women who are domiciled in the state across all government services and direct appointments. This is a big win for women in Bihar who are looking to secure jobs in the public sector.

This decision was part of 43 important proposals that were approved during a cabinet meeting led by CM Nitish Kumar. Importantly, this initiative responds to a long-standing request from Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav for reservations specifically for women who are original residents of Bihar. Previously, the 35% reservation applied to all women, regardless of their home state. The new policy now focused on benefiting women who are native to Bihar.

Other Key Cabinet Approvals

Diesel Subsidy For Farmers: The cabinet has approved a Rs 100 crore scheme under the Diesel Grant Scheme for the financial year 2025-26, aimed at providing support to farmers.

Wheat Seed Subsidy Hike: An allocation of Rs 65 crore has been approved to enhance the wheat seed replacement rate under the Prime Minister National Agricultural Development Scheme.

Incentives For Differently-Abled Aspirants: Through the Chief Minister Divyangjan Empowerment Scheme, differently-abled candidates from backward classes, economically weaker sections, and general categories who pass the preliminary exams of BPSC (Bihar Public Service Commission) and UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) will receive incentive amounts of Rs 50,000 and Rs 1 lakh, respectively, to help with main examination and interview preparation.

Formation Of Youth Commission: The Nitish Kumar government has decided to set up a Youth Commission in Bihar. This commission will consist of 10 members, including a chairman, two vice-chairmen, and seven members, all of whom will have a maximum age limit of 45 years.

Support For Sainik Schools: Financial assistance has been approved for student nutrition and the establishment of Sainik Schools in Nalanda and Gopalganj districts.

These decisions collectively signal the Bihar government's commitment to empowering its residents and addressing their needs.
