Delhi IMD Weather Update: Gusty winds and light rain lashed Delhi and Noida on Thursday as a western disturbance unleashed a new wave of thunderstorms over northwestern India. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had previously issued an orange alert in the national capital, predicting cloudy skies and winds strong enough to activate dust storms in some areas of the NCR.

The IMD forecast predicted moderate rain in the range of 5–15 mm per hour during the daytime. Citizens in different areas of Delhi-NCR witnessed occasional but heavy showers, along with winds that were strong enough to disrupt visibility and traffic on the roads.
This weather event follows what has already become Delhi's wettest May on record. As of Sunday, the capital had received 186.4 mm of rainfall this month, surpassing the previous high of 165 mm recorded in May 2008, officials said.
In light of the inclement weather, Air India issued a travel advisory for flyers using Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport.
"Rain and gusty winds may impact flights to/from Delhi this evening,” the airline said in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “Please check your flight status and allow extra time for travel."
The IMD asked people to remain indoors during stormy weather and adopt routine precautions, particularly in the face of high wind activity. In accordance with the latest forecast, light and moderate rain will continue to prevail over the region until Friday.
Talking to ANI, IMD scientist Akhil Srivastava explained, "There is a possibility of thunderstorms and gusty winds in the Northwest region—specifically in Punjab, Haryana, and parts of Jammu & Kashmir. An orange alert is also in place for parts of Uttar Pradesh, where hailstorms are expected."
