Assembly Elections Live Updates: Maharashtra and Jharkhand are preparing for their Assembly elections scheduled for November 2024. The Election Commission of India has set Maharashtra’s election for a single phase on November 20, while Jharkhand’s will occur in two phases on November 13 and November 20. Monday is the last day for Maharashtra candidates to withdraw nominations, with the vote counting for both states planned for November 23.

In Maharashtra’s 288-seat Assembly, recent years have brought significant political changes. Eknath Shinde rose to the chief minister’s position after splitting from Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena and forming an alliance with the BJP. Initially, the BJP won 122 seats in the 2014 elections, but the landscape changed, eventually leading to the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government, which held power until Shinde assumed office in 2022.

The BJP is contesting the elections as part of the Mahayuti alliance which also comprises Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) comprising the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP (SP) of Sharad Pawar and Congress is fighting the polls against the Mahayuti.

Maharashtra Chunav 2024: Rahul Vows To Fulfill 'Five Guarantees'

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said on Saturday that the party has fulfilled all election promises in states like Karnataka, Telangana, and Himachal Pradesh. He emphasized that the INDIA alliance aims to bring similar change in Maharashtra through their ‘five guarantees.’

Targeting the BJP-led NDA, Gandhi accused them of making “false allegations” that Congress hasn’t met its promises. In a post on X, he wrote, “In July 2022, PM Modi misled the public by labeling Congress’s welfare initiatives as ‘free revdi.’ Now, they’re campaigning by taking credit for Congress’s guarantees and accusing us of broken promises.” Gandhi challenged, “Modiji, come to Karnataka, see for yourself – we’ve delivered on every commitment. Congress schemes have transformed the lives of women, youth, farmers, and the poor. In Maharashtra too, the INDIA alliance is set to bring major change with its five guarantees.”

Maharashtra Elections 2024 | Won’t Allow State To Become ATM...': PM Modi's Jibes MVA

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, at a campaign rally for BJP-led Mahayuti candidates in Akola, said on Saturday that the alliance would prevent Maharashtra from becoming a “cash machine” for what he called the “most corrupt” leaders of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). Modi alleged that the MVA, comprising the Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP-SP, is widely recognized for corruption across the nation. “The MVA stands for multi-crore scams, extortion, token money, and transfer posting rackets,” he claimed, accusing the coalition of being mired in scandals and corruption. Modi’s sharp criticism of Congress and the MVA coalition comes as the BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP in the Mahayuti alliance work vigorously to reclaim power in Maharashtra.
