In a significant boost for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Gujarat, party leader Gopal Italia has clinched a resounding victory in the Visavadar Assembly by-election. Italia defeated Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Kirit Patel by a substantial margin of 17,554 votes, marking a key breakthrough for AAP in the Saurashtra region.
The bypoll, necessitated by the resignation of former MLA Bhupat Bhayani, witnessed a spirited triangular contest involving the AAP, BJP, and Congress. However, Italia, a prominent face of AAP in Gujarat and its former state president, established an early lead during the counting process and maintained it consistently.
According to the official data released by the Election Commission of India (ECI), Gopal Italia secured a total of 75,942 votes, while BJP's Kirit Patel garnered 58,388 votes. The Congress candidate, Nitin Ranpariya, finished a distant third with only 5,501 votes, further underscoring the party's ongoing challenges in Gujarat's evolving political landscape.
