Mumbai-Pune Expressway: Multiple Vehicles Crash, 1 Killed, Several Injured After Container Truck Brake Failure

A major accident took place on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway on Saturday morning in Khopoli area on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway when a container truck lost control due to brake failure, leading to a collision between more than 20 vehicles, as per Zee News TV.

One person was killed and over 25 people were injured in a horrific accident on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway near Khopoli on Saturday morning, according to media reports.

 


According to media reports, the accident occurred due to a container truck losing control because of brake failure. Due to brake failure, the driver lost control of the trailer and moved forward, causing a collision with the vehicles ahead. The trailer hit several vehicles one after the other for one and a half to two kilometers, causing severe damage to more than 20 vehicles.

As soon as information about the accident was received, local rescue teams and police reached the spot. They rescued the injured from the accident site and admitted them to hospitals in Khopoli and Panvel.

Police have taken the driver of the container truck into custody and conducted a medical examination on him; however, reports do not indicate that he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.

Due to the accident, traffic is affected in the area near Datta Food Mall, and authorities are diverting vehicles via alternate routes, as per media reports.
