Bangladeshi actress Meher Afroz Shaon detained by Detective Branch of Bangladesh police

Shaon's detention comes after a series of protests and acts of vandalism, including an attack on Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's residence in Dhaka, where visuals showed flames on one of the house's floors.

A group of protesters set fire to Shaon's ancestral home in Jamalpur near Narundi Railway Station, around 6 pm on Thursday evening.

The house belonged to her father, Engineer Mohammad Ali, who had previously sought a nomination from the Awami League.

Shaon received the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer for her role in the 2016 film Krihnopokkho. 

She was the wife of the late renowned writer and director Humayun Ahmed.

Her mother name is Begum Tahura Ali, who served as an MP from the reserved seat for women from 1996-2001 and again from 2009-2014. (Image: Instagram/ meherafrozshaon)
