Shubham Parmar, a 24-year-old Delhite, is rewriting the hustle himself by juggling a demanding nine-hour office job in Gurgaon with part-time driving for Rapido and actively creating content on social media. His tale gives a frank peek into the quest for economic stability and individual passion in the gig economy.
Parmar, a hospitality professional, drives from Delhi to Gurgaon each day to his office, even as he spends his evenings driving for Rapido, an activity he claims is motivated by the need for a secondary stream of revenue. In between, he carefully shoots, edits, and uploads content to Instagram, cultivating his enthusiasm for digital narrative.
"I’m currently living in Delhi and working in the hospitality industry, with my job based in Gurugram,” Parmar told HT.com. He explained that his motivation to seek extra work stems from an early ambition to "be different" and to carve his own path, diverging from his family's tradition of public service.
Despite persistent intermittent teasing by his colleagues, who occasionally refer to him as "Rapido wale bhaiya," Parmar has learned to accept his unconventional journey.
He freely disclosed his financial information, where an annual salary of about ₹3.6 lakh from his hospitality work translates into an in-hand monthly pay of under ₹30,000. This is supplemented by his Rapido part-time work, which gives a major fillip.
“I earn an additional ₹10,000 to ₹22,000 per month through Rapido, depending on how much time I’m able to dedicate. The earnings vary, but it’s been a reliable source of side income for me,” Parmar stated, highlighting the crucial role the gig economy plays in his financial well-being.
