The White House has said that US President Donald Trump will decide within the next two weeks whether the United States will get involved in the Israel-Iran conflict or not.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt made this announcement at a press briefing on Thursday.
"Based on the fact that there's a substantial chance of negotiations that may or may not take place with Iran in the near future, I will make my decision whether or not to go within the next two weeks," Leavitt quoted the President as saying.
Trump's remarks come amid conflict between Israel and Iran. The conflict between Israel and Iran has entered its eighth day. The conflict escalated when Israel launched 'Operation Rising Lion' on June 13, targeting Iran's nuclear and military facilities. In retaliation, Iran also launched several drone and missile attacks.
Meanwhile, to restart talks with Iran over its nuclear program, Trump has opened a two-week window for diplomacy with Iran before deciding on military action, CNN reported.
Trump and his advisors are optimistic that Iran, facing pressure from Israeli attacks, may drop its uranium enrichment, a request they had denied earlier, CNN reported.
On Wednesday, President Trump dismissed suggestions that he had already approved plans to attack Iran, saying that he was not looking to fight.
"I'm not looking to fight. But if it's a choice between fighting and having a nuclear weapon, you have to do what you have to do," ANI quoted Trump as saying.
On Thursday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to exact full price from Tehran, after Iranian ballistic missiles hit Israel's largest hospital, Soroka Medical Center. The strike left several patients, doctors and staff seriously injured.
"This morning, Iran's terrorist tyrants launched missiles at Soroka Hospital in Beersheba and at a civilian population in the centre of the country. We will exact the full price from the tyrants in Tehran," Netanyahu said in a post on X.
Sharing similar sentiments, Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz called for direct action against Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, over the attack on Soroka Hospital.
"Khamenei openly declares that he wants Israel destroyed - he personally gives the order to fire on hospitals. He considers the destruction of the state of Israel to be a goal; such a man can no longer be allowed to exist," ANI quoted Katz as saying.
