Elon Musk and Donald Trump had a significant public falling out last week, with the two engaging in a public spat on social media.
Musk criticised Trump’s "Big Beautiful Bill," as a "disgusting abomination" in a series of posts on the social media platform X.
"This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong," Musk said on X.
In response to Musk's criticism, Trump, while speaking to reporters, expressed disappointment in Elon.
"I'm very disappointed because Elon knew the inner workings of this bill. I'm very disappointed in Elon. I've helped Elon a lot," Trump said.
Following his statement, Musk made several attacks on Trump, including a now-deleted post on X calling for Trump's impeachment, and another in which he said the US president's tariff agenda would lead to a recession later this year.
Trump responded to Musk's statement, threatening to terminate Elon Musk's company's contracts with the government.
"The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon's Governmental Subsidies and Contracts. I was always surprised that Biden didn't do it," Trump said in a post shared on his social media platform Truth Social.
Later on Saturday, Trump clarified that he had not yet taken any action on the suggestion to cancel federal contracts with Musk's companies, saying he had not given it any consideration. "I'd be allowed to do that," but admitted, "I haven't given it any thought," Trump said.
Musk was a major financial backer of Trump during last year's election, reportedly spending more than $2.5 billion to support him in key states, NBC News reported.
Trump later claimed that his feud with Musk has inadvertently highlighted the benefits of his budget bill.
"I think Elon brought out the strengths of the bill because people who weren't as focused started focusing on it, and they see how good it is," he said.
